Brighten a stranger’s morning with your voice, and wake up to a greeting from somewhere far away. Here’s how to get started.
Your first good morning
Introduce yourself
Sign up or log in, then open Profile to add your city. You can also choose whose voices you’d like to hear and your city preferences.
Leave a little kindness
Open Record, allow microphone access, and record a 10–60 second greeting. Stop and preview it, then choose Submit greeting. Not sure what to say? Try: “Good morning. I hope something makes you smile today.”
Wake up to a voice
In Profile, choose your wake-up time and enable the alarm. Turn on Repeat daily if you like. Listen when it rings, dismiss the alarm, then rate the greeting or leave a message.
Before you go to sleep
Check your wake-up time and make sure the alarm is enabled.
Play a greeting on Home and check that you can hear it. Check your device volume as well.
Leave Halo open and keep your device awake. Check mute, volume, and browser sound permissions.
If your browser blocks automatic sound when the alarm appears, choose the on-screen play button.
Where does your greeting go?
Halo matches available recordings with listeners’ settings. Sending a greeting does not place a phone call. The city on the recording page is a hint, and sending does not guarantee immediate delivery to a particular person.
Received greetings appear in your Home inbox, where you can replay, rate, and leave a message. The map shows city connections that have already happened, and rankings reflect community wake-up activity. While the community grows, you may hear a Halo sample greeting.
A kind hello is enough. Avoid recording phone numbers, home addresses, or other private details, and keep greetings free of insults and harassment.
If something doesn’t work
Why didn’t my alarm ring?
Check that Halo is still open, your device is awake and unlocked, and the alarm is enabled. Test the sound and check volume and browser permissions. Browser alarms depend on the browser running and cannot replace your device’s own alarm.
Why can’t I record?
Allow microphone access in the website permissions beside your browser’s address bar and try again. If it still fails, check your device’s microphone permissions and whether another app is using the microphone. Record at least 10 seconds before sending.
What if sending says my login has expired?
Sign in again, then retry sending. If your recording is still on the page, keep that page open while you sign in. Refreshing or closing the page loses an unsent recording.
Why haven’t I heard a new voice yet?
New greetings depend on available recordings, matching preferences, and listeners’ alarm settings. Check your profile, consider broader preferences, and give the community time to grow. Sample greetings let you try Halo in the meantime.
Will it ring with my phone locked? Will it call me?
Keep the page open and your device awake for now. Locking your phone, closing the page, or your system suspending the browser can stop the alarm ringing. Halo does not currently make phone calls.
